A Treasure

Remírez de Ganuza Blanco Reserva

First produced in 2009.

The varieties used are Viura, Malvasía, Garnacha Blanca and small amounts of other white grapes.
It ferments in new French oak barrels where it remains on its lees for around 8 months.

The lees are worked by rotating the barrels, a system developed by the winery that replaces the traditional batônnage.

Due to its high demand, this wine is sold via a quota system to ensure it is fairly distributed.

His reds are more famous, but this remarkable white wine from Jesús Mendoza is every bit as exciting. Made from Viura with 20% Malvasía and Garnacha Blanca, it's like a white Rioja crossed with a top Burgundy. The new French oak is very well integrated here and the freshness of the cooler vintage really shines through on this pithy, refined, floral cuvée showing undertones of fresh pastry and a core of lemon butter and beeswax. 2022-30 Blanco Reserva 2018 - Tim Atkin MW, 2021

WINE PRODUCTION

Grapes are harvested from vineyards located in different towns in Sierra Cantabria: Labastida, San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Ávalos, Samaniego, Leza, Elciego, Navaridas, Laguardia and Elvillar.

Manual harvesting takes place in 12 kg boxes from vineyards with an average age of 60 years and low yields.

The bunches are temperature controlled prior to fermentation in specially designed refrigerated chambers for a period of 24 hours at 4-6Cº. The grapes are selected manually on the sorting table.

The wine is made from the free-run juice (from unpressed grapes).

It ferments in barrels and is kept on its lees for around 8 months. The lees are worked on by rotating the barrels, a system developed by the winery that replaces the traditional batônnage.
